Bone Dial

Before we get into the wisdom of the bone dial lets examine the oracle first.

What does an oracle do exactly?

Oracles serve as divine interventionists. While it is true they have insight that others may not have access to but more important, they are able to receive information from the ‘spirit realm’ on behalf of themselves and others. An oracle must commit to attaining and translating the information outward in a loving way. Oracles are great communicators, not just with insight received from spirit but also from the wisdom that ALREADY EXISTS within the person they’re interacting with. Oracles are committed to neutrality. Meaning; oracles know  their opinion on the matter at a hand is irrelevant! Story- tellers, writers, and oracles all have one thing in common: Get the story out! They release the idea of how things should be and allow the message to strengthen in order to get to the places it needs to go!
It seems easy enough right? The giving and receiving of information.

So what interferes with this process?

The answer while fare more complex than the single word I am about to share with you and yet all the same simple and straight forward truth:

TRUAMA.

Trauma, wounds, and an unwillingness to go back to the places that have once destroyed us,  is what keeps someone from accessing their deepest power. The oracle is one who merges the spirit world and the physical reality and helps another move forward based on  being able to “see” what was hidden. After a decade of sitting with people who are bold enough to share their stories and a deep dive into the world of writing, I created ‘The compass method’.  This method I is an energetic agreement that says we ALL agree there is a story hiding underneath the ‘surface’ information. Through oracle cards, we gain permission to access that story to help reveal the story gently, with love. Because people aren’t always ready to see or know the actuality of the pain they’ve endured, we have to be mindful of how we communicate this message which is why we rely on the compass method to strengthen the message AND soften it at the same time.

In character work this creates well rounded characters that are relatable to our audience, because it could touch on the readers core wound. Because remember stories are people and people are stories. And it is unfolding as you speak this information to awareness. There IS not right way forward. The oracle is there to help illuminate what is hidden and reveal a path that may not have been available prior to the information being revealed. Yes the oracle may have access to information FROM THE SPIRIT WORLD to share with the recipient (which will come up in the position of the North, a lesson for further down the road) With this information in mind, let’s get into oracle readings.

Oracle readings and story- telling

Whether you are pulling this information for character development or completing readings for potential clients, this is the method I use for BOTH. The Bone DialThe Bone Dial is the center of the reading. It is the core of the issue. When we begin with the first card, we ‘pull’ the truth to the surface. The card in the first position reveals the truth. NOTE: THIS IS NOT ABOUT BEING RIGHT. THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOUR EGO. THIS IS ABOUT BEARING COMPASSIONATE WITNESS TO THE STORY.
The surrounding cards are how this person has navigated that wound and possibilities of movement. It is the ability to reveal what once was a hindrance is now your strength. But let’s focus ONLY on the1st position for now.

The card in the first position, the position of the bone dial, can also be seen as the energy of someone’s moon. Whether we know our chart or not, we all have a moon sign. Use the messages of the moon to help support this information where it relates to your character or client. The bone dial’s message is the core of the matter. It is the spirit wound or the soul of the wound. It is what is beyond what can be seen. Whether this is a story you are writing, or a client in front of you, the 1st card is what is hidden. This is about how they feel about themselves and not necessarily what the world sees in relation to that person.

The oracle has permission to view this and it is tender work. APPROACH WITH CARE. Remember this is a real person with real wounds whether they know it or not, you have to know it as the writer, as the oracle, as the storyteller. Your ‘job’ is to help create an opening where understanding and illumination can move through. Do not expect change to happen immediately.
The goal is AWARENESS NOT CHANGE .THE GOAL IS AWARENESS NOT CHANGE!!
Change comes from within. It is up to that person to change (or not!) and the wisdom of the bone dial presents us with the question, does that person even know this wound exists?! So we go into these places with this knowledge - this person may not know. They maybe don’t even WANT to know. And that’s okay. Not everyone wants to know and we must respect that. But as story tellers we must also be willing to be uncomfortable as this person/ character wrestles emotionally with this information. We are inviting ourselves to be the safe space this wound can exist without judgment.
The oracle, the storyteller is the translator, NOT the answer holder!
We work under the assumption this person (or character) does not know how this bone has shaped them. Or if they do know, they maybe don’t know how deep the wound goes. They don’t know what “broke them”, and could potentially liberate them. We as oracles also know people aren’t broken, just perceptions. And that is the wisdom of the oracle - to offer a different perspective.
SO with that said Go forth and read the energy of the bone dial!!!!

Pull Oracle Cards!
Grab an oracle deck and let’s get to work!

This week, draw a card for yourself that represents your bone dial. Sit with it. Talk to it. If you’re a writer, write down the wisdom of the bone dial.
How would you write it?
How would you create a character around this?

The bone dial is yours and it is not meant to be a scary place. Although it can be!

The bone dial is kind of like flowers growing in the eyes of a skull.. And we must embrace all of the images, sensations, and experiences that come with the knowledge of the bone dial.

Oracles remind the client/ character - You are not broken, but your bones might be. The way to mend the bone is to witness the break. Be bold. You are safe to feel.

***DISCLAIMER - We are talking about spirit wounds on the bone dial, but exploration of bone dial wounds can evoke traumatic life events. Please, if something emerges that feels too big to handle contact a trauma informed therapist for support. Your wounds are real and your needs are important. Seeking additional support may help you in this process.

Story boarding / Oracle Cards in action

In a 6 card oracle draw, the first 2 cards you pull are set in the center. These cards represent the person (or character’s) inner and outer world.
Step 1. Draw the first card (bone dial), lay it down facing east to west, and receive the message with it. If you are into astrology, the bone dial has the energy of the moon. If you are a writer, write with the energy of mother moon. Nourish this information speak to it tenderly. Nurture it. It is the inner parts of a person that no one sees. And there is a chance that the recipient doesn’t know this about themselves. Meaning, in a reading you may reveal something from the bone dial that evokes a visceral response from the recipient. They may tell you it’s not true or they don’t feel connected to that. (Yet) thats ok. Let them have their reaction to this.
If you are writing a character this card may represent to bones of the book or the characters quest. This card is always laid down first!!!!! The outer card or the sun card is how this person shines their light. The compass rose os what is “covering” the bone dial. The mask, or the way they express themselves!!

IF you are using oracle cards for character development write down as many inner traits from your character as possible!

Practice!
Practice the bone dial! Draw cards for yourself , your characters, your animals, and your friends! (always ask spirit permission first!) write down or audio record yourself speaking the wisdom of the bone dial.

If you have any questions, post them below!

Can’t wait to read all about your spirit information! Talk soon loves.
